The ending of this one is almost exactly the same as the first movie and Marco Beltrami even uses the same Paul Haslinger’s track to score it, which is the best example for how useless this movie is. The runtime is hilariously padded with 7-minute long unnecessary prologue and the scattered flashbacks from the first movie, that must have taken at least 10 minutes altogether. Between those endings there’s a very dumb and boring plot where the only thing that captured my interest was the ridiculous sex scene. What on Earth was he thrusting into? Does he not know where the vagina is?

Man, I watched this movie countless times when I was a kid. It feels just like I remember it. The practical effects are still great, but unfortunately, the CGI aged poorly. Great set pieces, amazing gore. My favorite entry in the franchise. It’s a fun gothic horror adventure. I had forgotten how hot Selene was.

This one is my favorite in the franchise it’s the best balance of everything that makes the series fun. It expands the mythology considerably, particularly the history of vampires, Lycans, and the Corvinus bloodline, while keeping Selene at the center. The relationship between Selene and Michael also gets more attention, which gives the movie an emotional element beyond the action. Aesthetically? It’s peak underworld the blue/black color palette, leather costumes, castles, snow, gothic architecture, and vampire mythology give it a very distinctive atmosphere. There’s also something almost gothic- romantic about Selene and Michael being caught between two ancient supernatural worlds.

Solid movie I love how it builds on and continues from the first movie. I love the back story on the Corvinus bloodline with Markus, William, and Alexander. The chemistry between Selene and Michael is fantastic. We also get more Michael Hybrid fight scenes which were great I wish we had a little more in there. I think adding 15 more minutes to the Selene back story would have made the story better. Also I love how they keep the same cast!

A great movie but not as good as the first one. The storyline has kinda buggered itself

We’re in the sequel, so we have to get more Lore now. Although I do like how we immediately pick up from where the last movie left off after the opening flashback. I don’t know if they got a bigger budget after the success of the first one, but this one is just so much more bodacious and silly and grand. I love Marcus with his giant stabby wings. Or when Michael uses his monster claws to rip open paint cans. It feels more coherent than the first one, but it still boils down to entertaining action bits with supernatural people.

Inconsistencias con lo que habían planteado en la película anterior y demasiados clichés para mí, tuve que pararla y tomarme un día de descanso para terminarla (porque no me gusta dejar películas sin terminar).

Underworld: Evolution คือภาคต่อที่แทบจะเดินหน้าต่อจากตอนจบของภาคแรกทันที หลังจาก Underworld ประสบความสำเร็จทั้งด้านรายได้และสร้างฐานแฟนเหนียวแน่น สตูดิโอก็รีบเดินหน้าสร้างภาคต่อออกมาในปี 2006 พร้อมดึงเลน ไวส์แมนกลับมารับหน้าที่ผู้กำกับอีกครั้ง หนังยังคงได้เคต เบคคินเซลกลับมารับบทเซลีน และสก็อตต์ สปีดแมนกลับมาเป็นไมเคิลเหมือนเดิม คราวนี้เรื่องราวไม่ได้หยุดอยู่แค่สงครามระหว่างแวมไพร์กับไลแคนอีกต่อไป แต่เริ่มขุดลึกลงไปถึงต้นกำเนิดของทั้งสองเผ่าพันธุ์ เปิดเผยความจริงที่ถูกฝังมานานหลายร้อยปี และขยายจักรวาลของแฟรนไชส์ให้ใหญ่กว่าเดิมอย่างเห็นได้ชัด หลังเหตุการณ์ในภาคแรก เซลีนและไมเคิลกลายเป็นผู้หลบหนีที่ถูกไล่ล่าจากทุกฝ่าย เพราะการเปิดโปงความจริงและการฝ่าฝืนกฎของทั้งสองเผ่าพันธุ์ทำให้พวกเขาไม่มีที่ยืนอีกต่อไป ระหว่างที่ทั้งคู่พยายามหาทางเอาชีวิตรอด ศัตรูที่น่ากลัวยิ่งกว่าก็ถือกำเนิดขึ้น เมื่อมาร์คัส บรรพบุรุษแวมไพร์คนแรกตื่นจากการหลับใหลอันยาวนาน เขาไม่ได้เป็นเพียงแวมไพร์ธรรมดา แต่เป็นสิ่งมีชีวิตที่มีพลังเหนือกว่าทุกคน และกำลังออกตามหากุญแจที่จะปลดปล่อยวิลเลียม มนุษย์หมาป่าต้นกำเนิดผู้มีพลังทำลายล้างมหาศาล การเดินทางของเซลีนและไมเคิลจึงกลายเป็นการแข่งขันกับเวลา ทั้งคู่ต้องตามหาความจริงเกี่ยวกับสายเลือดของไมเคิล ต้นกำเนิดของสามพี่น้องมาร์คัส วิลเลียม และอเล็กซานเดอร์ คอร์วิน รวมถึงปริศนาที่เชื่อมโยงสงครามทั้งหมดเข้าด้วยกัน ยิ่งเรื่องราวดำเนินไปก็ยิ่งเห็นว่าประวัติศาสตร์ที่ทุกฝ่ายเชื่อมาตลอดเต็มไปด้วยคำโกหก การหักหลัง และความทะเยอทะยานของผู้มีอำนาจ ซึ่งทำให้สงครามที่ดำเนินมาหลายศตวรรษไม่ได้เกิดขึ้นเพราะความเกลียดชังเพียงอย่างเดียว แต่เกิดจากการปกปิดความจริงมาตั้งแต่ต้น สิ่งที่น่าหงุดหงิดที่สุดของภาคนี้คือมันพยายามจะขยายตำนานของจักรวาลให้ใหญ่ขึ้น แต่กลับทำให้พล้อตยุ่งเหยิงไปหมด หนังโยนเรื่องสายเลือด ต้นกำเนิด และการหักหลังเข้ามาแบบไม่ค่อยมีจังหวะให้ตั้งหลัก จนเรื่องราวดูสับสนมากกว่าจะน่าติดตาม หลายช่วงเหมือนหนังรีบอัดข้อมูลใส่คนดูโดยไม่สนว่าคนดูจะตามทันหรือไม่ แถมโทนภาพก็อึมครึมจนหลายฉากแทบมองไม่ค่อยเห็นอะไร เหมือนหนังตั้งใจจะทำให้ดูขรึม แต่กลับทำให้การรับชมเหนื่อยและหงุดหงิดกว่าเดิม แทนที่จะสร้างบรรยากาศลึกลับให้ชวนลุ้น มันกลับกลายเป็นความมืดที่บดบังทั้งอารมณ์และรายละเอียดของฉากไปเสียมากกว่า ยิ่งไปกว่านั้น หนังยังฉายภาพฉากเซ็กซ์ออกมาเกลื่อนจนกลายเป็นความรกมากกว่าความเร้าใจ มันไม่ได้ช่วยเพิ่มน้ำหนักให้เรื่องเลย กลับทำให้จังหวะของหนังสะดุดและไม่น่าสนุกเท่าที่ควร หลายช่วงเหมือนหนังมัวแต่หมกมุ่นกับความดิบเถื่อนและความหม่น จนลืมไปว่าควรเล่าเรื่องให้กระชับและมีทิศทางมากกว่านี้ พอองค์ประกอบพวกนี้ถูกใส่มาเยอะเกินไป ความเข้มข้นที่ควรจะมีเลยกลายเป็นความอึดอัด และทำให้คนดูรู้สึกเหมือนหนังพยายามสร้างภาพความโต แต่ไม่ได้ทำให้เนื้อเรื่องแน่นขึ้นจริง ๆ เลย อย่างน้อยก็ยังพอมีข้อดีอยู่บ้างตรงดีไซน์ฉากต่อสู้ที่ยังไม่ขี้เหร่ การปะทะกันระหว่างแวมไพร์กับไลแคนยังพอมีพลังและดูได้อยู่ แม้จะถูกกลบด้วยความมืดและความวุ่นวายของบทก็ตาม บางฉากยังพอมีความเท่และความดุเดือดให้เห็นอยู่บ้าง โดยเฉพาะเวลาที่หนังปล่อยให้ตัวละครลงมือปะทะกันตรง ๆ โดยไม่ต้องอธิบายเยอะ แต่โดยรวมแล้ว Underworld: Evolution เป็นภาคต่อที่พยายามจะยกระดับทุกอย่าง ทว่ากลับพังเพราะเรื่องเล่าที่รกและบรรยากาศที่มืดจนเสียอรรถรสไปแทบหมด เป็นหนังที่มีความทะเยอทะยานพอจะน่าสนใจ แต่ดันสะดุดเพราะการเล่าเรื่องที่ไม่เป็นระเบียบและการจัดโทนที่ทำให้ความสนุกหายไปเกือบทั้งหมด
