Has a movie ever been this trashy, but lovingly crafted, thought out, and downright badass? Probably not. I will stan Underworld (2003) until the day I die, I stg

films like underworld have become retroactively more interesting inasmuch as they represent the last dying breaths of mid-budget american action cinema. outside of things like john wick, there really isn’t anything else quite like this still in existence. underworld isn’t that great, in fact, it’s quite terrible at several points, but it does hit a really specific sweet-spot in being an unauthorized vampire: the masquerade rip-off that gleefully indulges in its own inane supernatural lore and slow-mo dual-wielding trenchcoat bullshit. i really do respect the dedication that something like this has to being a mix of practical creature effects and janky CGI, all the never-ending atmosphere of smoke and rain, and the james cameron-tier Blue™ filter that smoothers every scene…

Everything about this is Blue. Visually it’s blue, having to finish the film left me a bit blue. Another truly uninspiring early 2000s action film. You know what you’re getting with this, an emotionless badass protagonist, and a bunch of side characters you don’t care about. The twists and turns were really all that kept me going throughout, and weirdly the lore was as kinda interesting. That’s about it tho. Will I watch the other 4 underworld films, no probably not 😭😭

Bill Nighy had a very horny 2003 with this and Love Actually.

There are a lot of bullets fired, and a lot of the fight scenes are just okay, but I have to give credit where its due and say that this movie definitely has its own sense of style. I feel like comparisons to The Matrix and its sequels are appropriate. I think a major part of what makes those movies work is that the characters at least feels recognizable and sort of like characters They might be cliché, but I…

Gothic tale of vampires vs. werevolves, guess whose side I’m on? Very ambitious for being so camp, the pale color grading looks great and just a few too shallow characters break the immersion. While the plot has promise, the movie doesn’t exactly bring it home. The vampires are all beautiful, save for very strange looking CGI monster Bill Nighy. They’re also all British, cause why not? The werewolves are ugly as fuck, Kate Beckinsale in a full leather bodysuit is faster than everyone else and a police car is an 80s Mercedes-Benz. All excellent ideas in my opinion.

Cientificamente acurado: a miscigenação fortalece as espécies.

It was alright, I don’t mind a vampire/werewolf movie, it was just a little confusing for a bit, but I understood eventually. I really like all the gothic fashion that the vampires wear and how it contrasts with the rugged style of the werewolves. A little graphic, but not too bad, just look away when it gets bad.

Love good vampire and wearwolf media, but I’ll be honest this one could nawttt hold my attention 😬 I need to watch it again tbh and really lock in bc I think I would really like it/rate it higher 🤔🤔🤔 I do like the cgi and I like that they’re duking it out w weapons instead of just claws vs fangs 🤔 Also there are so many actors that I could recognize wtf?? Four from divergent, hero from much ado…

Still the best white wolf fan fic ever. Peak shoot Europe for cheap balkansploitation vibes. Some of the ugliest white people imagineable living forever. But the good news is they don’t have to see their reflections, bad news we still got eyes. Michael sheen should have been given profit sharing considering he’s the entirety of the acting and emotional narrative of the film. He single handedly saves the third act. It should have been his movie instead of the fuck…

It’s no secret that I love vampires, and this will forever be one of my favorite vampire movies. The vibes are unmatched, it’s got great visual identity and I still find it kinda surprising that this was the first movie of most of the crew, eh how good it looks. Now, I will admit that I remembered this being a little better, but it’s still a great vampire flick, and one of the most creative and inventive ones in the…

As atuações? Bem… Não temos muito do que nos orgulhar…

watched for the first time in forever and omg i love how cheesey this shit is. entire scenes dedicated to just people standing in a room cocking their guns. nothing else is like this in the whole world selene gives the vibes of a no nonsense aro femdom type girlie up until the end, theres like no way to tell how she’s feeling through the last of it, though. and her motivations arent always super clear. i seem to remember…

I son‘t really get why People love this film so much, especially because the first half is just Twilight, mixed with Matrix with better dialogue, better acting and a actually good mythology. In the second half, they threw in a bit Blade and this was where I began to understand the hype.

For centuries, vampires and werewolves, or Lycans, are at war. Now, the blood of one human holds the key to tipping the balance of power in the Lycans’ favor. The look is very much in the 2000s style. Color reduced to an almost monochromatic look with very crushed blacks, leaving little detail or texture. Sometimes becoming almost only silhouette. Compared to the other big female fantasy action franchise of the time, the Resident Evil movies had a lot more texture…

Very gritty and gothic, the matrix but with vampires. I feel like the romance came out of no where, but I loved how badass the female character was and how her love interest played the damsel in distress instead. The aesthetic was mega cool, I liked the world it created.
