In a year of films where it feels everyone involved was doing their absolute best, Ford v Ferrari lands on the opposite side of the spectrum. Aside from the editors it was clear that everyone who worked on this, and I mean EVERYONE (besides the editors…and fuck it, Bale too) sleepwalked their way through this. Just when you think something worth writing about is going to happen, they pull back. The bright cinematography was eye-grabbing at first but gets old real fast. It’s getting the job done, nothing more. It’ll be the talk of the town at this year’s Thanksgiving, though.

Watched a screener link and I’m kicking myself for it. This is a film for the big screen. Excitement in craft, performances, production and sound design…. really great. My fave James Mangold film… but full disclosure, have not seen Walk the Line. I know, I know… it’s in my queue. Phedon Papamichael’s digital cinematography is truly stunning. One of the best looking films of the year. Panavision C-, H- and T-Series Lenses Oh…. hate the title. It’s about the men, not the companies.

Looking increasingly likely I just won’t have time to write at length about this movie, but I absolutely loved it. One of the few long movies lately that needed to be as long as it is — you can’t tell the story of a 24 hour race without giving the viewer the feeling of time passing. It’s filled with many of the elemental components of cinema: Speed, energy, movement, innovation, and handsome men in sunglasses. This has got to be one of the best things Disney got from the Fox merger, and in a subtle way it might speak to the act of creation under those kinds of corporate conditions.

It’s a pretty simple plot, but everythings done well. Surprised at how effective the racing scenes are despite being fairly obvious. Won’t say it’s truly groundbreaking or anything but it’s a solid reliable heart thumper. It’s a ford.

Ford v Ferrari est un film vraiment prenant, j’ai beaucoup aimé la relation entre Carroll Shelby et Ken Miles, qui apporte de l’humour et rend les personnages attachants. Les scènes de course sont impressionnantes et donnent vraiment l’impression d’être au cœur de l’action. Le film est aussi intéressant parce qu’il ne parle pas seulement de voitures, mais aussi de compétition, de passion et des conflits entre les personnes qui veulent gagner à tout prix. Même s’il est assez long, je ne me suis pas vraiment ennuyé. Une très bonne surprise, surtout pour les personnes qui aiment les voitures et le sport automobile.

very solid watch. great worldbuilding, great story. theres definitely some hollywood-izing, time skips and historical figures being villainized, and much obviously than in rush, but it masks not too badly. like most racing stories, there is a bigger emphasis on the story than the racing, but the characters and acting are all very decent, and the climax is great fun. decent movie.

The family struggles vs being supportive is believable and done well without distracting from the main plot. I just realized I never rated this movie but I seriously find myself watching this movie on a pretty regular basis and it such an enjoyable watch for many of the same reasons I praise La La Land. For me it is extremely visually satisfying and let me tell you Matt Damon and Christian Bale have some of the best performances in this movie.

Back in the 60s I heard this old story of a Corvette driver crashing at Riverside raceway directly into a guardrail sticking out of the track. Dudes helmet apparently flew threw the front window and the guardrail went through the car splitting the Corvette chassis in half, the driver flew out into the dirt of California. The cars fuel system ignited immediately on the contact of the guardrail crazy huh I made this up on the spot
