I have a soft spot for the way Vaughn commits to silliness, but this does overstay its welcome. However, I did enjoy the jeep grinding down a railing like a skateboard, Sam Jackson getting a paycheck mostly for exaggerated reactions to a file download status bar, and the first and second Whirlybird jokes (it got less funny the third, fourth, fifth, and sixth times, though).

This is a really disappointing film. I love the Kingsman series and heard that this was kinda a spin off, so I was looking forward to an expansion of the Kingsman universe. This film was just ridiculous, they were trying to recreate the Kingsman films, but taking the wrong aspects. There were so many twists, you could predict another twist was coming because they happened about twice a minute. All of the fighting was just daft, not impressive and over the top like Kingsman, but just annoying. The jokes weren’t funny and I didn’t care for any of the characters. Overall, quite a disappointment.

This movie seems like some of the most creative goop you could ever make, but yet still lacks the guts to go all the way. The twists are truly unexpected, and they just keep coming, it’s ridiculous which is the point of the comedy. It doesn’t quite have a premise that is fantasy, sci-fi, or anything like that. The entire thing seems to tease a supernatural element to the plot but it just focuses on being worse Mission Impossible at times.

Matthew Vaugh might have delivered the very definition of plot twist overkill because Argylle stuffs an absorbent if not insane amount of plot twists and exposition drops every couple of minutes in one sitting, especially during the third act, that it makes the already convoluted story feel even more confusing and bloated than it really needed to be. Some of this movie is great but some of it is just awful. I can’t get over the styling and costume design! I’m struggling to remember a movie where it was worse. Bryce is gorgeous but somehow they made her look like an overweight American soccer mum playing dress up in that hideous gold dress. And that blonde wig, oml what were they thinking? And what about Sam Rockwell’s blonde tips and Henry Cavill’s entire look? Ugh to all of it.
