I apologize in advance for coming across as an even bigger pedantic dick than usual, but I just cannot step over this film’s fabricated history lesson. I know, I know, historical accuracy is always a tricky thing and most films present a romanticised version of events. But this film portrays ‘recent’ history from a rather well documented time period. And it isn’t so much the small things that were changed for cinematic convenience that bother me, it’s the big things. So it’s not the fact that the Scots didn’t wear kilts in those days, nor did they paint their faces. There are many of those things in it, changed for the audience’s understanding. Search the internet and you’ll find lists…

Mel’s Birth of a Nation with all his trademark flair: genocidal hatred of the British, brutal violence and the Christ-like torture and suffering of the protagonist. Not a “good” movie in the sense that I take it particularly seriously, but a “great” movie in terms of how much I enjoy watching it.

“Every man dies, not every man really lives.” Such a powerful and emotional film. William Wallace’s fight for freedom was incredibly moving, especially seeing how much he was willing to sacrifice for what he believed in. The battle scenes were intense, the cinematography was beautiful, and the soundtrack made every emotional moment hit even harder.

What a movie! Entertaining, tragic and epic. Of course it’s not accurate but who cares, it’s just a very good movie.

In the Year of our Lord 1314, patriots of Scotland – starving and outnumbered – charged the fields of Bannockburn. They fought like warrior poets; they fought like Scotsmen, and won their freedom. This is one of the most emotionally powerful movies of ALL TIME. The historic setting, the story of love, backstabbing, pride, unwavering sense of freedom is all so BEAUTIFUL. Mel Gibson delivers a MASTERCLASS as William Wallace. The movie has so many incredible scenes, incredible lines, and…

[WATCHING EVERY OSCAR BEST PICTURE IN A YEAR 68 OUT OF 98] Some royal dudes in England, 1314, in which Christianity has been a thing for hundreds of years: ‘Hey you know that guy up north who’s fighting for the freedom of his people?’ ‘Yeah?’ ‘Let’s martyr him.’ ‘Oh yeah? You think that will go well for us?’ ‘I think that will go really well’ ‘Didn’t something like this happen before?’ ‘No I don’t think so’ ‘I can’t think of…

Mythic in a way that transcends historical inaccuracies and a problematic Mel Gibson. (My favorite quote about the degree of historical inaccuracy in the movie comes from Sharon L. Krossa on the improper and anachronistic use of kilts: “This is like a film about Colonial America showing the colonial men wearing 20th century business suits, but with the jackets worn back-to-front instead of the right way around.”

watched this with my parents, who liked it (nostalgia?). an alright movie to watch if you’re watching it with people who like it, so that you can pick up on their positive vibes and convince yourself you’re having a good time. don’t think i’ll be rewatching this of my own free will though. the irish guy was pretty great though i’ll give the movie that.

William Wallace really looked at England and decided he had enough free time to start a war. Mel Gibson spent three hours screaming “FREEDOM” and somehow made me feel like I needed to run through a field afterwards. “They may take our lives…” Sir, I think you’ve made your point. To be honest, Freedom has never sounded so emotionally exhausting.

i guess the native americans didnt believe in freedom enough the battle of stirling bridge looking very dry in this ___________________________________________________________ “braveheart” is less interested in william wallace as a historical figure than in the kind of mythological hero that rebels against insurmountable odds. gibson turns a complicated medieval rebellion into a revenge story about freedom, stripping away historical nuance while replacing it with enormous battles and an iconic soundtrack. the historical inaccuracies are so extensive that it must be…

You can feel the three-hour runtime, but it is nonetheless an impressive and worthwhile film. The first half, depicting England’s oppression of Scotland, didn’t do much for me, but I was struck by the sheer scale of the second half. The battle scenes are particularly spectacular. The moment when the men let out their war cries sent shivers through me. There are quite a few gruesome images, but they effectively convey the brutality of the battles and greatly amplify the film’s overall sense of power and intensity.
