UGH Helen Mirren is perfect as Queen Elizabeth I. This focuses on the latter half of her reign and I was pleasantly surprised with how accurate it is. Obviously some things are exaggerated or left out but if you’re interested at all in learning about Elizabeth I then I think this is a great starting point. Even the made up conversation between her and Mary Queen of Scots was really impressive. They never met in real life but in this…

Grandpa wanted to give me a history lesson after his granddaughter of the other side of the family saw the first part of this and thought it was magnificent. Good, enjoyable, great performances, but oh-so long. 3 hours and 40 minutes in one go is something I’m not used to anymore. Credits to me please. Fun to see some of Eddie Redmayne’s old work! Was a very nice surprise. I also kept reading Essex as E-Sex and I thought that was very funny.

Part 1: 8/10 – 30/3/26 🪶 OMG HES SO HOTTT AHHHSGSHH he is the juiciest eye candy EVER. although his part is limited in the first half he starts at just before an hour. regardless honestly well made and interesting retelling. Part 2: 10/10 – 31/3/26 🪶 honesty can’t blame her. who could say no to that beautiful face. that sexy man. i would watch this endlessly to see him in such states. oh to be an actress in the 2000’s and get to make out with him. genuinely intriguing, was completely enthralled with this part. PLEASE i need more of medieval hugh yearning.

One of the best British miniseries I’ve ever seen. It’s never boring, it’s well-paced and easy to follow along, the costumes are gorgeous, and of course Helen Miren is amazing.
-
W
Enjoyed this. Helen Mirren gives a lot depth and humanity to a figure who, in my experience, is not always afforded that privilege
-
K
Mirren has mastered the scream-sob, baby Eddie redmayne whimpers and sobs, plentyyy of morbidly beautiful harpsichord music. You should probably watch this is that stuff is up your alley, and if you don’t mind super long movies about royalty (it’s not the worst of its genre). And …. I just haaate how charming Mr puppy eyes earl of Essex is…. 🥰

I love her
-

A definite focus on Elizabeth’s love life and the ways she was influenced by the men in her life. There wasn’t a lot of room for us to see what she herself thought or was motivated by, it kind of felt like we were more so in the perspective of her council, her people, or her lovers; which was odd to me since the movie is titled after her. The costuming was immaculate and the sets were grand. The performances…

Pretty easy going take on E the 1st really. Characterisation of Leicester and Essex feels off but the Cecils are much more on point. And Helen Mirren’s Elizabeth’s post-Leicester makeover is *chef’s kiss.*

It’s always hard for me to comprehend that Elizabeth the 1st was alive and reigning in the same timeline as Shakespeare, and that she visibly viewed and enjoyed his plays on stage Then 300 or so years later, I lived for a large majority in the 2nd Elizabethan era, and also visibly viewed and enjoyed Shakespeare’s play’s on stage Thank you Elizabeth the 1st for being such an advocate for the arts and all the joy it brings

Início essa resenha com uma única palavra. Absurdo!!

Enjoyed this. Helen Mirren always good as a Queen, any Queen. Hugh Dancy is very suave and dashing. Then you get Irons. So cool. You can add this to his list of horny repressed Englishmen roles; he’s the best at it. Admittedly a bit stuffy here and there and McDiarmid is ‘too Palpatine’. I think this is easily the best thing Tom Hooper has done.

Helen Mirren as the Queen is astounding (in more ways than one 😉) Irons is solid it’s all in all a good historical drama HBO rarely fails though

the age gap is just weird and the whole movie is just confusing… the writing is bad and.. its just bad. Hugh dancy serving cunt like always. May god never make a man as bottom eyed, twinky, and androgynously beautiful as 30 year old hugh dancy again. He was meant to be on screen to say the least.

1) Jeremy Irons is a national treasure. 2) Helen Mirren is a national treasure. 3) the script was phenomenal and had such wonderful lines. It was Shakespearean. 4) the production design was immaculate. Oh, the costumes and hair. 5) this TV miniseries is 20 years old – and it stands up

This was really amazing and more accurate than my favourite elizabeth film. It was genuinely upsetting and powerful to kudos to director 👑🥰🥵

Elizabeth I impresses with its lavish production design, striking cinematography, and a rich, atmospheric soundtrack that brings the period to life. The performances are the highlight as Helen Mirren is commanding in the leasing role, while Jeremy Irons and Hugh Dancy deliver equally strong turns. A powerful, visually stunning historical drama that captivates through both craft and performance.

Helen Mirren fucks hard in this. It’s a supercut of Elizabeth really wanting to fuck one guy but she can’t cuz muh crown and then really wanting to fuck another guy. They shoulda just let these bitches have sex, cuz the guys who are waiting for her to put out gradually go insane from cum buildup. All I can say is uhhh kinda based??? Like, no i wont fuck but you should go fight the Spanish for me. Insane work and we love to see it.

Incredible costuming! That and the set design is honestly the only reason to watch this. The story really drags in the second half, and I think they should have focused much less on Essex and his waywardness as it becomes very dull after an hour. Also I guess the Scottish king got to be King of England, despite his dickishness? The movie never makes it clear what the line of succession became. Guess I’m just an ignorant American, but the narrative should contain the answers to the questions it brings up.

happy pride month to hugh dancy bc he’s lowkey butch as fuuuuck in this

hugh dancy was criminally gorgeous in this the costumes were awesome but otherwise I didn’t like this very much :/

her life was so hard

First night half: really very good, but E is getting frazzled with all the responsibilty as if she hadn’t handled anything like it in her previous 20 years on the throne. Second night half: many touching moments and Bess sure is much fun but Dancy as Devereux is so much weaker than Irons, even if the entendres are increased.

i forgot to mark this one because i might be dumb probably. i love hugh’s role of the duke of being sexist, he is always such a slut. either he’s seducing women or being a petulant little shit and I’m here for it. oh and i loved the relationship between the baddie elizabeth and leicester.

Sumptuous three and a half hour two episodes series about the last three decades of the reign of Elizabeth I, the Queen who I think probably did more than anyone to drag England out of the Middle Ages. For half a century she cleaned up the messes her deranged father and sister left behind after their reigns, faced down the might of the Spanish Empire, prevented religious civil war, and reformed the country politically, financially and socially into a far…

The first part was so serious and then the second part was so unserious. A 26-year-old Hugh Dancy spends most of this movie 🥺 and pining with a little mustache and his tiny waist causing a ruckus. At one point, Hugh and Eddie Redmayne go from storming the castle completely dry to soaking wet in the next scene with no explanation. I spent this entire miniseries on Wikipedia and I still gasped at the pregnancy twist. I love a well done beheading and this show gave me plenty!

There is “camp,” and then there is “Helen Mirren walking out in the middle of making out with Hugh Dancy on his knees to talk to herself about being in love” level of camp

Trigger warnings for the blood and gore. Oh my gosh this movie, i literally believe every character sells me! The romance i am in love with! I feel for her yet while she is Queen she is still a woman and will show her innocence & feelings emotions while also trying to be strong alot on her shoulders. Sooo emotional on some parts but this really is one of the best movies ever done the closest to the real life they could get with this even down to the son!
