It’s easy to see why people latch onto Taylor Sheridan; his macho relentlessness and uncompromising violence are the exact kind of stuff that should appeal to my lizard brain tendency toward exploitation but without someone working against his material, finding interesting ways to frame or visualize it (see: Mackenzie’s sense dignity and tragedy—and keen awareness of performance—in Hell or High Water or Villeneuve’s lean, existential translation of Sicario’s chaotic abyss) his writing is revealed to be the strained genre posturing that it is. With the exception of a particularly savage shootout in the back half, this is gross in the name of faux-importance; the most telling scene is the embarrassing prologue that compares a young native woman to sheep, accidentally…

It made me cry and then I went up to taylor Sheridan my new favorite man alive aka a good screenwriter and director and told him He Made Me Cry and he said that’s a goal and then I asked him if I could hug him and he said absolutely and it was precious

The movie The Snowman wishes it was. Taylor Sheridan is one of my favorite people in Hollywood. He writes mature movies with adult themes for an adult audience. After killing it with screenplays for both Sicario and Hell or High Water; he takes it up a level with writing and now directing, Wind River. A murder mystery set in the snow hills of Wyoming. Mr Sheridan uses themes he’s familiar with. A naive at times FBI Agent in over her head. (Sicario) A story about the poor working class and their daily struggles. (Hell or High Water) With Wind River, he makes his Agent more confident in her decisions and actions, and he explores the hardships of the day-to-day life…

Speechless. During the entire final 25 minutes I sat there stiff as a board with my jaw on the floor. Some of the most intense stuff I’ve ever seen in a movie. Wind River has compelling characters, engaging story, beautiful visuals, and outstanding performances. Jeremy Renner, Elizabeth Olsen, and Graham Greene all knock it out of the freaken park. If Renner doesn’t get an Oscar Nomination, it will be an absolute travesty. You would think Taylor Sheridan has been directing for YEARS!

this made me so so sad. the grief in this movie feels so heavy, esp the way it shows parents trying to live with the loss of their daughter. the flashback scenes were hard to watch and kinda triggering, but i think they made the weight of everything that happened feel even more real.

“I got some good news, and I got some bad news. Bad news is you’re never gonna be the same. You’re never gonna be whole, not ever again. You lost your daughter. Thing’s ever going to replace that. Now the good news is, as soon as you accept that, and you let yourself suffer… You allow yourself to visit her in your mind, and you’ll remember all the love she gave you, all the joy she knew.” [The third movie,…

this movie really affected me the first time i saw it, but there are definite seams that i didn’t notice the first time and i’m not willing to give taylor sheridan as much grace. i still think it’s a good movie, there are just some definite, glaring flaws even if it is white savior shit, there’s something pretty satisfying in watching those assholes get wrecked

“Wolves don’t kill unlucky dear, they kill the weak ones” What a deeply personal story. I was expecting something along the lines of Mystic River which in some sense it is but much more personal and introspective. Jeremy Renner delivered some of his best work in this, truly an unappreciated career. Elizabeth Olsen’s performance also deserves a mention. For a film that is centered around Native communities and their struggles in the US, I kind of didn’t like the “white-savor” thing they are doing. It’s not done with bad taste, it’s just so Hollywood.

Wind River is a movie I’ve heard nothing but good things about. I didn’t expect it to be as hard of a watch as it was. Beautiful scenery and the best performance I’ve seen from Renner as well. Memorable scenes, especially the “why are you flanking me” scene. It built great tension and had a surprisingly bombastic climax. 89/100

Wind River is one of those short but sweet underrated movies that you’ll be glad, you happened to watch randomly. I was extremely impressed at how devastating yet tense this entire experience was. I made it up, there’s no one left to teach me. What a sad beautiful movie. I love the themes and the setting of it all. Not typically what you think of when you think of westerns, but it is every bit of one. If you like Taylor Sheridan, westerns, crime, or thrillers you’ll love this one. John Beranthal spawns in every movie
-
J
Does exposition extremely well, the atmosphere is masterfully crafted and surprisingly the social analysis and criticism is really well thought out. Suffers from some unnatural dialogue, middle of the road performances and average cinematography. More good than bad but still flawed.

kar teması oldukça estetik. “I do. But I decided to fight the feeling instead, ’cause I figured the world would win.” alıntısı baya iyiydi. babasının umursamazmış gibi gelen tavrının ardından annesini gösterdikleri sekans, babasının jeremy’e sarıldığı sahne ve sondaki yüzünü boyadığı sahneler oldukça üzücü. kızın 10 km karda yalın ayak yürüyebilmesi hiçbir sekans gösterilmeden etkiledi. katilin de benzer şekilde ölmesi tatmin edici denebilir. oyunculuklar iyi, katilin de dahil.

Another review is basically the main challenge with Wind River. Jeremy Renner’s character could have been a Native American actor and nothing would have changed. The film itself, without the social commentary, is fucking fantastic. Aside from some dialogue that just doesn’t quite land, and the fact that the lions didn’t get to eat a certain someone; it’s a marvellous film. It’s tightly paced, emotionally devastating, and extremely tense throughout. The moaning, wailing soundtrack delivers an impeccable accompaniment to the…

Solid Friday night in curry film. The more I watch Jeremy Renner the more I like him so any recommendations ping them my way. Abbie was so deeply upset during that trailer scene with Jon Bernthal. Wait until I show her the girl with the dragon tattoo. I think we’ll have to skip that bit.

weird movie. it has nothing to say other than “life sucks”, and strongly implies that this is the natural order of things. it wants to say something about how native american women are treated, but is only capable of doing it by channeling the whole thing through a white man. it has a character say that revenge won’t solve anything, then it looks you straight in the eye and tells you that revenge is actually good, maybe even the only morally defensible option. it mistakes being bleak with being profound.

“How to gauge someone’s will to live? Especially in these conditions?” definitely conflicted about this one. most of the time i was really engaged and invested in the story. i liked the snowy setting, the native american characters and theme throughout, even jeremy renner’s backstory. however the flashback sequence (more specifically that one part of the flashback) just completely changed my perspective on the movie; why show a graphic scene when it was already mentioned multiple times through the film?…

This film shows once again, just how cruel people can be. I liked the film for its serious atmosphere and all the snowy landscapes. Even though not much happened in the first hour, it wasn’t boring. I liked Elizabeth Olsen best in this film.

Wind River is an outstanding modern-day western, and a tragedy from start to finish Liz Olsen is a fish-out-of-water FBI agent, called to a snowy Indian reservation with Jeremy Renner, and the always-reliable Graham Green The makeshift trio explores a treacherous landscape to solve the murder of a young woman which mirrors something from Renner’s (character) own past. Renner has some great monologues here, written by the mighty Taylor Sheridan. It’s a shame that he only makes TV now because his…

This is what happens when men work in the mountains, surrounded by snow, for months and years without getting any pussy. 😭 Basically, four guys turn against the Punisher and assault his girlfriend. She runs away barefoot while trying to escape, but because of the freezing cold, she doesn’t survive. Later, Cory Lambert makes the man responsible suffer the same fate, forcing him to run into the snow barefoot. The movie reminded me of Dead of Winter, especially because of…

Pretty enjoyable even with some groaner moments courtesy of Sheridan’s usual weaknesses. The action and mystery are compelling and very well-directed. A lot of the “poet of the west” stuff sounds really powerful until you think about it for more than a second, and the female perspective is just so so shallow while claiming to elevate it. Oy

“This isn’t the land of ‘waiting for backup.’ This is the land of ‘You’re on your own.’” I totally get the frustration that Jeremy Renner was cast for the lead role instead of a Native American (even though it’s obvious why he was), but that’s about the only downside to this film that I can think of. Wind River is a thrilling, heartbreaking and important film that I give Taylor Sheridan lots of props for writing – it’s devastating how little attention is given to the impoverished lives that Native Americans have been left with in a land that used to be theirs.

aku suka topik yang diangkat di film ini, yaitu fakta nyata tingginya angka pembunuhan terhadap perempuan Adat / Suku asli Amerika (native women) serta masalah pelanggaran wilayah suku oleh perusahaan minyak (seperti kasus Dakota Access Pipeline). naaah tapi porsi investigasi detektifnya kurang memuaskan, cukup banyak waktu mengikuti proses penyelidikan, dan sebagian besar informasi penting mengenai kasus justru diberikan melalui flashback, sehingga proses investigasinya kehilangan sebagian fungsi naratifnya. selain itu, sayang banget film ini tidak memperlihatkan bagaimana reaksi/dampak emosional komunitas warga…

This movie is merely only masquerading as a murder mystery while truly being an examination of grief and the search for justice. I don’t mind that fact at all, I actually appreciate it a lot. By the end, I still don’t feel like I know Jeremy Renner and Elizabeth Olsen’s characters as much as I would…

Eh this really rubbed me the wrong way. The white savior man trope was nuts here. Jeremy Renner character for sure should have been a native American actor, and wow the Olsen character is weak. It got off to a very strong start but dissolved into your standard nonsense thriller the last 30 min. Given the subject matter, the POV was way too white person centric although the depiction of Native Americans was pretty solid. It also just wrapped everything up way too neatly at the end; a bit of ambiguity goes a long way with the themes this movie was touching on.

I feel like people are missing the point, especially looking back, in seeing that this is one of the few mainstream movies to highlight how even today, we fail the natives of the land we call home. Tough to rate as a whole cause the last 3rd is pretty thrilling and well-told (if not a little unrealistic), but a lot of other parts of the movie can be lacking. A modern western/crime drama as quiet as the snowfall. Hawkeye and Wanda in the deep cold. I don’t think I’ve ever seen Jeremy Renner better. Directing and screenplay by Tyler Sheridan are top-notch. I’ll be thinking about this one for a while.

unfortunately, the only mainstream mmiw movie

Nice to see two of our old Avengers link up on this film. Jeremy Renner and Elizabeth Olsen definitely performed like they wanted you to know they can hit a home run without being attached to Disney. First I have to say this movie is pretty grim…..has some moments that can certainly trigger certain victims of a treacherous crime. Like if it wasn’t my bedtime right now as I type this I would probably turn on a comedy movie to…

The first half of the movie starts a little slow but a the emotional notes hit. The son starts like he will play a larger role in the movie before he is kind of just set aside and never brought up again. The end of the movie genuinely one of the most satisfying I’ve seen.

Swear I seen this in high school I just didn’t finish it. The ending is makes u very uneasy and comfortable with the tension between the two groups being thick as shit. Ending is ultimately satisfying

A good movie that flirts with being more. I appreciate the sentiment that Sheridan didn’t feel like he could tell the story through an indigenous character’s eyes, but that still leaves us with a white saviour tale and some other tricky tropes I don’t much care for despite how well intentioned and earned they might be. Good performances by Renner and Olson. But it veers toward self serious and didactic, which is understand with the topic matter, but I just don’t know if Sheridan is the guy to deal with said topic matter.

Really good movie from start to finish. The snow covered, isolated location made the whole setting feel awesome. Totally worth a watch if you just want something easy and enjoyable.

Not straight horror, but it hits with the same kind of dread. Way more effective than I expected.

Wind River movie review. Mum and I thoroughly enjoyed it (if that’s the right word) It is set in Wyoming at a fictional place called Wind River (part of an Indian reservation) The scenery was stunning, changing from a light snow to a blizzard at times. Starring Elizabeth Olsen who plays Jane (remember those twins?) and Jeremy Renner who plays Cory. In essence it is a thriller. Whilst Jeremy isnt exactly a Ryan Gosling or a George Clooney we thought…
