some of the most baffling editing, script and soundtrack choices ever put to screen. Its shot like a savage garden video and probably one of the worst big budget movies ive ever watched. 5 fucking stars

This is an affront to motorsport. Ludicrous crashes with terrible CGI, saved by the practical effects in some of them. All of Sylvester Stallone’s doing, he wanted to make an F1 film but couldn’t get any teams to give him any info, so he had to settle for CART (lmao). So much unnecessary melodrama, and your two main stars are side characters. Renny Harlin ranked

Very powerful to watch the stars of an earlier generation (Sylvester Stallone, Burt Reynolds) passing the torch to the stars of today (Kip Pardue, Estella Warren, Robert Sean Leonard). Hard for me to look at this one objectively, because the Toronto media breathlessly covered the filming when I was a kid, and watching Sly, Kip, and the gang hanging around Exhibition Place and drag-racing up University Avenue took me back to a happier time. It was the Mel Lastman era, when seemingly every ’80s/’90s action star – Steven Seagal (Exit Wounds), Jackie Chan (The Tuxedo), Jean-Claude Van Damme (Maximum Risk – technically pre-Lastman, but close enough) – was shooting here, along with every other bad American movie. It was Hollywood…

Fight! – Stallone v. Schwarzenegger: A Rivalry of Muscular Proportions Harlin and Stallone reunite as they abandon the dangers of the snowy mountain for the F1 with a script written by Sly himself. Also, I wasn’t sure if it was this one, but this film came to my attention because of the song “Breakdown” by Tantric. That main riff is soo catchy. I believe I learned how to play the guitar, but never managed to. The rest of the soundtrack is a banger. As I mentioned in their previous collaboration, Harlin really knows to build on and deliver on the excitement, and this one is no exception. From the flashy and effective quick cuts editing to the way he utilizes…

Sylvester Stallone writes his own dumbguy Days of Thunder sequel and has his pal Renny Harlin (the dumbguy Tony Scott) fill in for him behind the camera. Providing a bunch of superficially overactive bombast at the expense of any dramatic sense, a feverishly abstract music video editing style (that I didn’t even have to look up to know was courtesy of the guy who cut Oliver Stone’s Any Given Sunday), and a lot of tacky early-2000s fashion, music, CG, etc. Sounds like something that I would honestly enjoy but unfortunately it was just kind of annoying and exhausting to watch at this length, and weirdly low-energy considering the amount of people yelling at each other and cars crashing. Mildly of…

Was almost Driven to shut this one off with all the lame & boring race team melodramatics, horrid editing, third-rate performances and an absolutely abysmal soundtrack. But it did at least manage to hold my attention at times with it’s completely insane crashes (real ones and bad CG ones), it’s close calls of almost creating civilian casualties (most notably with that high-speed Indy car chase on the streets of Chicago with the police), and a lot of lovely shots of the Chilean beefcake Cristián de la Fuente and the beautiful Estella Warren (not including that foot fetish footage in the pool). 🏁🏎🧑🏼🏎👦🏟🇺🇸🇲🇽🇧🇷👨🏻🦳👨🏼🦽🏎👦💔👩🏼💕🏎🧑🏼🤝🧑🏻📞😎🇨🇦🏟🏎🧑🏼🤝🏎👦🏻🗣🪙🧑🏼💻💃🏼🏊♀️🏟🏎💥🔥🏎🇺🇲🛣🏎🧑🏼💨🏎👦🏻💨🚓💨🇯🇵🏟🏞🔥🏎👦🏻🇨🇱💥🏃🏼🏎🧑🏼🏃♂️🏎👦🏟🇩🇪🏁🏎🧑🏼🏎👦🏎👦🏻🍾

“Produced by Sylvester Stallone, Screenplay by Sylvester Stallone, Directed by Renny Harlin” – Opening Credits (2001) AND “When women write out their embarrassing fantasies it’s called fan fiction, when men do it they make movies.” – my wife, – Renny Harlin Ranked: boxd.it/1v4qa Based on what I know about racing, he should have been named Jimmy Jly or Bimmy Bly. So, this movie sucks but you should watch it pretty soon. Driven is a race car action-drama fan fiction where wise mentors with dark pasts help young drivers with talent but a lack of drive. It’s kind of a frantic Sylvester Stallone fever dream brought to life by the bizarrely talented yes-man Renny Harlin. This movie just starts with tons…

Driven is a notoriously (and criminally) maligned, high-octane car wreck of a movie you have to see to believe. Tracking the CART open-wheel circuit, Renny Harlin (an underrated auteur of wildly sloppy dad-movie extravaganzas) adapts Sly Stallone’s bloated script and delivers ADHD-addled thrills from start to finish. This thing peels out at 200+ mph and refuses to let you breath or think — only pulling over to recharge at a few well-timed soapy, melodramatic pit stops (ludicrously saucy moments punctuated by pouty-eyed moues, smooth jazz flourishes, and over-embellished dissolves). Don’t let the uptight nitpicks detract you. Buckle-up and prepare to be manhandled by queasy handheld camerawork, wild CGI crash sequences (with Formula 1 cars flipping end-over-end as wheels careen slo-mo…

Cinematic Time Capsule 2001 Marathon – Film #38 ”That is horrifying! I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything like that!” What a wreck! This is easily the stupidest racing movie ever made. In fact, it’s not even a racing movie, it’s actually an incredibly sappy soap opera that’s poorly disguised as really bad car racing fan-fiction. Stallone had wanted to make a Formula One movie, but Bernie was smart enough to turn him down, so he was forced to go with Champ Cars. But it doesn’t really matter because the editing and storytelling are so horrendous you could’ve made this same movie about golf cart racing. This car-catastrophe is an insult to racing fans everywhere. ”Don’t glare, Joe. It makes your eyes look small” Cinematic Time Capsule – 2001 Ranked Checkered Flag! – A Collection of Auto-Racing Films

Messy is the right word for this movie man what the heck did go wrong here. it feels off right from the start of this thing :O sorry for the team behind this and i like race movies alot !!!

Oh wow he can pick up a quarter on a fucking foot and a half wide racing slick, I bet you I could do it first try with a fucking penny it’s that lame of trick. It doesn’t even have anything to do with racing or control that much, you always follow a similar line around a track every fucking time so how is this a skill whatsoever. Also humming in the car?!?! Who the fuck wants to listen to you hum while you drive a 800hp race car at 200mph

Renny Harlin is a hack but the over the top portrayal of racing (drivers stopping on the track to jump out and help someone, girlfriends next to engineers etc talking to their driver boyfriends through the closed circuit headsets,…) is at least endearingly stupid.

This… this was most certainly a movie. First of all, there feels like a lot of the plot points that occur in this movie, were points that the F1 Movie just took off and ran with. In particular: – Man who is old and long retired from the motorsport involved is dragged back in to help the team – Said team pulls shady maneuvers to win at any cost (though in the case of this universe’s PacWest, it only happens…

While it’s far from the greatest racing movie ever made, the audio through my home theatre was astounding! It’s very much a Renny Harlin joint and the crashes (sorry spoiler) are visceral as hell. A bit of fun but nothing special.

Watched this for the first time in years and yeah, it’s not really that great. Especially as someone who’s a racing fan like myself and the 15-20 others I watched it with. The soundtrack, though, really carries the film for me. A mix of BT’s synth and industrial work, early Chemical Brothers, Filter, it’s a banger soundtrack that works really well with the film.

I don’t know if Renny Harlin makes bad movies or if he takes awful scripts and makes them watchable because his movies are like a snack you shouldn’t be eating. Deep Blue Sea, Cliffhanger, Die Hard 2, Cutthroat Island and then this movie Driven. This movie is pure insanity for anyone who watches racing, also I am not ever quite sure who I should be cheering for. Our protagonist is actually the least likeable of the main characters, he is…

“To you, he’s ice. Inside, he’s scared. But he likes it. He says it makes him try harder. He says the day he’s not afraid is the day he’ll stop.” Once you recognize Stallone’s writing style, it’s impossible not to hear him in every character’s dialogue. Kind of hilarious that he wrote himself to play 37 when he was 55 while filming. Burt Reynolds is supposed to be this grizzled vet compared to him even though he’s like ten years…

There have been a number of very enjoyable movies based in the world of car racing (not least of which is the excellent F1). Driven is not one of them. It’s a star vehicle for Sylvester Stallone, an empty slice of dullness from director Renny Harlin, and a film you can easily point to as an example of the worst of mainstream “blockbuster” entertainment. Kip Pardue plays Jimmy Bly, a young racing car driver struggling to achieve his full potential.…

The biggest failure of this movie (and there are many) is that it is boring. What it has going for it is the charmingly poor CGI, the nü metal soundtrack, and Gina Gershon.

maybe the horniest racing movie of all time, the amount of straight pussy shots was insane. the editing was also insane, jump cuts like every half second, turns out he also edited Pawn Stars and Ice Road Truckers, which makes so much sense.

Watched for Estella Warren. This movie is terribly formulaic, cliché and predictable. That is not necessarily a bad thing, but the flashy editing tends to hurt it from time to time. The story starts of a bit slow but it gets better to follow after a while. I do think F1, treading more or less in the same waters, does it better.

Serán buenas, ¿no? Alguna tiene un ligero pase, pero los pésimos efectos especiales y el exceso de planos hacia los ojos no ayudan a darle el dinamismo suficiente a…

Hysterically funny that Stallone wanted to make an F1 movie and they were just like “…nah we good” so he had to go with CART. Still, a Stallone starring, Renny Harlin directed, Days of Thunder knockoff? That should be good for some mindless action. Throw in Burt Reynolds and we should have something going here. Unfortunately somehow despite eveyone yelling and cars smashing into each other they manage to make high octane racing kind of fucking boring. Everyone is just…

Whether they admit it or not, fans go to auto races to see crashes, and they’ll see a lot of them in “Driven.” Cars slam into walls, tumble upside down, come apart in the air, land in water, explode in flames, fall on top of other cars and disintegrate. So serious are these crashes that one of the movie’s heroes injures his ankle. No one is killed, I guess. There is a horrible multiple-car pileup in the final race, but…
- Synopsis
- Talented rookie race-car driver Jimmy Bly has started losing his focus and begins to slip in the race rankings. It's no wonder, with the immense pressure being shoveled on him by his overly ambitious promoter brother as well as Bly's romance with his arch rival's girlfriend Sophia. With much riding on Bly, car owner Carl Henry brings former racing star Joe Tanto on board to help Bly. To drive Bly back to the top of the rankings, Tanto must first deal with the emotional scars left over from a tragic racing accident which nearly took his life.
