52 You can smell the stench on this mega-budget fiasco from a mile away but even if it’s a far cry from the original movie, it’s great to see a comic-book film so transparently committed to its own silliness. This is so fucking goofy. Plenty of slapstick bits, bad one-liners, absurd creatures, clumsy ADR. Had a blast watching it aspire to Jules Verne and Ray Harryhausen, even if it fails routinely. There are obvious references to both Mario Bava’s Planet of the Vampires and Tobe Hooper’s Texas Chainsaw Massacre, so James Wan reminds us now and then of his distinct personality.

Too cowardly to commit to the most important moment in Aquaman history. Really just cowardly in general. This has some of the ugliest camerawork I’ve ever seen in a big budget blockbuster. The only thing even remotely good about this film is Abdul-Mateen as Black Manta, but even that is squandered in tandem with the lazy script and sloppy direction. It’s a very fitting end to this franchise; I don’t miss it one bit.

The screenwriting is less interesting than the world itself here. The film feels like it tried to mimic the first one, but given that it has more mythology to introduce, it doesn’t make that mythology feel as rich or consequential as the first film’s presentation of Atlantis. The banter, though, is still there, this time with Momoa and Patrick. The ending, to me, adds a satisfying emotional aftertaste to whatever complaints I had with the film. After spending the first film as brothers on opposite sides, seeing the possibility of them standing side by side feels like a worthwhile conclusion.

Rounding up to 1 star because there were some decent visuals and some parts were fine I guess. Extremely forgettable movie. Bad performances with only a couple exceptions. The story crams so much in but I didn’t care about a single bit of it, it was all derivative and bland. Nothing has emotional weight or novelty or evokes an emotional response. I actually liked this better than the first one, though it has been a while since I saw that. This at least had more weird world-building stuff. The plot is nonsense though, and the action sequences looked pretty crappy. By the end I was pretty checked out.

I heard this was bad, but damn I think the opposite. This was a really fun watch and I enjoyed it more than the first. Aquaman and Orm’s chemistry carry most of the film and I love how they concluded the story. The story was kinda messy and didn’t pace very well, but the action sequences made up for it. Black Manta looked cool and was fun to watch, but his character didn’t have much depth, and also Aquaman was a bit goofy in this. I’m glad Amber Heard’s role was cut shorter because of you know what. But yeah had a good time with this.

Aside from some cool visuals, and aside from some solid action, there’s nothing else this movie has to offer. I have never watched a worse film in my life. Everything was unoriginal. Everything was boring. I could see plot twists from even if they took place in the Andromeda. I absolutely despise this movie. I can hardly even call it a movie. I would rather have watched paint dry than suffer through Jason Momoa’s absolute catastrophe as he puts the final nail in the coffin for DC Studios. This was a very enjoyable movie. The cast had a very good time with it. I enjoyed the story about the brothers. It was very touching. I wish they would make another one this cast. Some scenes were cut a little too short or cut in an interesting way but that is understandable with what they had to work with it. Still. It’s a good movie.

The story is simple, and the visually enjoyable underwater action was already showcased in the previous film, so there isn’t much novelty here. But Aquaman himself is so irresistibly charismatic that his straightforward, muscle-bound simplicity is a joy to watch.
