There are lots of things to love about this; the animation is, of course, absolutely stunning. The water, the textures, the fabrics, the sky, the character and creature designs, the setpieces – it’s all mind-boggling and beautiful and I can’t believe it was done in quarantine. The worldbuilding is epic and diverse and just pretty cool overall. Some of the stylistic choices with the editing feel inspired by Bollywood and other Asian media, which is fun. The action is pretty engaging and genuinely brutal sometimes; even the weapons are creative and dope. The musical score by James Newton Howard, too, is full of character and uniquely inspired choices of instruments and sounds. Oh, and the message is very timely, too!…

Don’t know what I was on when I initially gave this a 6/10. This movie is BAD. The score, animation, and a couple charming side characters can’t save it. Its screenplay is insufferable and loaded with countless obnoxious unfunny quips, Sisu is the most irritating character in a Disney movie since the Rosie O’Donnell monkey in Tarzan, and the message about trust is genuinely irresponsible, not to mention beaten to death in increasingly unsubtle ways. The fact that Disney had the gall to release this the same year as Encanto is the most impressive thing about it; they really wanted their own “DreamWorks releasing both Shrek 2 and Shark Tale in 2004” moment, huh?

Alors l’histoire en soit je comprends il y a quelque chose mais c’est trop vu et revu un peu redondant J’ai aimé le dragon et sa personnalité un peu loufoque me rappelant énormément celle du Génie d’Aladdin. L’animation quant à elle, je n’ai pas aimé, la forme des visages m’a énormément perturbé surtout lorsque la protagoniste est enfant. Les scènes de combats restent bien réalisées

Raya & The Last Dragon Det er gøy å få en film satt i en sørøstasiatisk setting. Filmen har sjukt kul lore og worldbuilding, og i tillegg er Raya en ganske kul karakter. Det er noen utrolig bra fightscener mot siste halvdel av filmen, samt flere skikkelig wallpaper-verdige shots. Selv om filmen ikke kommer i nærheten av Avatar: The Last Airbender, kan den tidvis gi litt av den samme feelingen. Det ble også litt emosjonelt på slutten, noe som ga filmen…

I cheered when Sisu got shot. Never again am I thinking about this movie. The plot was predictable, every major character I want DEAD, and the moral of the damn story is??? That even when you’ve been wronged you should take the initiative to forgive the person who hurt you and continued to hurt you again, and never showed you any significant sign of growth??? Why is Raya the one initiating?!?!?!!? AND SISU GET OUT OF MY SCREEN GOOD LORD I HATE YOU

Disney lança diversos elementos de seus sucessos passados e as mistura com um visual 3D por vezes interessante e assim surge Raya e O Último Dragão. Há ideias e cenas interessantes aqui, mas o conjunto soa um pouco vazio, parece que não há uma genuína vontade de se contar essa história e explorar sua originalidade, apenas que ela funcione seguindo o que já foi feito.

I truly think this is overhated and it’s so beautiful to see my people being represented in this. like yes, it is pretty predictable, but there is such beauty within the actual artistic choices between textures, elements, and even just the overall scenery displayed. it truly is a beautiful film. and if any movie can make me bawl, it is definitely a win in my books!!

This movie is good at making you think it’s a good movie. The beats are there so they tug at your heartstrings in all the right places but it feels overall unearned when you actually watch it again. The characters, world, and animation had so much potential but are undercut by the overwhelming feeling that Disney wanted to dumb this film down to make it easily marketable to young children forgetting the heart of its studio is making good movies for ALL ages. I want to like Raya and the Last Dragon and though I can see potential that’s all there is.
