I’m not sure whether the sequel was successful or not. There’s not much of the Atlantic in the movie and I miss it a bit. Instead we see the desert, the sea and a naturalized area which is way too much for this movie. It felt like a series and every new area was a new episode. Nevertheless, I found the beginning very successful and the movie was fun even if the feeling from the first part was missing.

The majority of this film had me going “What in the world?” Disney must have been hoping for a TV series spin-off, because this movie is clearly 3 TV episodes cobbled together with a loose overarcing theme. Basically the “plot” is Milo, Kida, and crew going above ground to solve 3 mysteries relating to the supernatural. Considering Atlantis is a legend itself, this fantastic theme is fitting, but the plots are so incredibly made-up and ill-explained that the result is a bunch of confusing and utterly ridiculous hocus pocus. This is by far the most insane, pointless Disney sequel I have ever seen. It made absolutely no sense and had very little entertainment appeal, even as far as revisiting the old characters goes. And since Disney’s direct-to-video sequels tend to be lame in general, that’s setting the bar pretty low.

Was this supposed to be a tv series? The animation is significantly worse than the first, and the whole vibe including dialogue and mannerisms are different from the first movie, just feeling like some sucky spin off show– felt like scooby doo episodes rather than Atlantis. La définition de la suite inutile. Carrément j’ai arrêté à la moitié. Le premier film fait état d’un discours sur les dérives de l’humanité, le pillage archéologiques, etc. Dans celui-ci, plus rien de tout ça, voir tout l’inverse. C’est sympa de retrouver les personnages, mais en dehors de leur traits de caractères, ils ne sont que les ombres d’eux-mêmes, et Kida est le seul prétexte pour que le film s’appelle “l’Atlantide”. The change in animation shocked me a bit at first but considering this is 3 episodes of a cancelled tv show welded together it did alright for itself. I particularly enjoyed the Kraken episode, definitely played with a basic level of Lovecraftian mood well.

These are some weak monsters of the week because they don’t fully give me an explanation, but a teaser. Also, fuck pets. Every time the studios add a pet they suck. The original ‘Atlantis’ film despite being released after the Disney Renaissance period, has the feeling of the new renewed golden age of the studio’s 90s period. The same can’t be said for this film. While ‘Milo’s Return’ is fun and I enjoyed the Lovecraftian imagery, this movie never rises above direct to DVD sequel.

“That is called stealing.” “That’s called commerce, honey.” This more of like 3 episodes in a trenchcoat than a movie, but still pretty fun. Seeing Kida and Milo interact always made giggle and kick my feet, they’re so cute. The gang is hilarious as always. Oppy is a bit annoying, as pet sidekicks usually go, but I did like the lava payoff. I appreciate that it maintains its message of anti-capitalism and anti-colonization from the first movie. Modern Disney moves don’t have the balls to do that now.

Might be the worst piece of media Disney’s ever produced. There’s a moment in this where the gang go to a land that’s possessed by a magic demon and come across an innkeeper who has eyes like she’s possessed. Blank, lifeless eyes. Every villager who’s possessed has the same eyes, too. The problem? She’s not possessed at all! She just wants to protect her “baby” that we never actually see. I think the baby is evil. It’s some of the worst animation I’ve ever seen combined with a script that would make Netflix executives proud. I love you Ratchet but you’re no Michael J. Fox.
