Riddick delivers some of the most brutal and inventive kills in the franchise, showcasing the series’ signature mix of sci-fi action and survival horror. However, it also features some of the most cringe-worthy dialogue, with lines that feel more self-indulgent than badass. While the movie seems to have a bit more fun with its premise compared to Pitch Black and The Chronicles of Riddick, it paradoxically takes itself even more seriously, which makes some of its more absurd moments unintentionally hilarious. One particular line from Vin Diesel’s Riddick stood out as so bizarre and off-putting that it momentarily took me out of the film. But just as I was processing how ridiculous it was, he immediately followed it up by…

Riddick balances a machete on his foot then kicks it at a guy and cuts his head in half. These movies are just really cool man.

❤️‍🔥76% 🔙Home Alone 2🔙 🔜Carry On🔜 Riddick is an absolute sci-fi dream, completely unique in style and the world is its own in every sense. When Vin Diesel and David Twohy link up with minimal resources you know the creativity is going to be at a pretty high point. Starting a little slow but it’s a good base for some extra world building which is really one of the strong suit of the movie. It’s unbelievable how fresh this feels and definitely stands out in a crowd of sci-fi hits; with some incredible technology, an awesome color palette and unique species. One of if not my favorite Vin Diesel characters, absolutely larger than life and the king of the food…

i miss the Conan-in-Space vibe, but this is merely differently dorky. more of a western, even sorta Boetticher-y in spots. plus Riddick has a dog.

Riddick managed to train his dog without using a shock collar because he’s not a piece of shit, and the moment someone hurt his dog he became Space John Wick.

“Maybe I went and did the worst crime of all — I got civilized. So now, we zero the clock. Just me and this no-name world. Gotta find that animal side again.” Five years after having become Lord Marshal of the Necromongers, Riddick (Vin Diesel) has been betrayed by his people and stranded on a desolate planet, injured and alone, forced to fight for survival against the hostile wildlife. Eventually, Riddick finds the means to escape — by attracting the attention of the people who are after him so they come to him… I watched the Extended Cut Riddick is a science fiction action film written and directed by David Twohy. After the incredibly ambitious space opera “The Chronicles of Riddick”, which ultimately ended up flopping at the box office, Vin Diesel and director David Twohy have gone back to the drawing board and taken the character of Riddick and brought him back to familiar roots. Following the events of “Chronicles,” Riddick is betrayed by the Necromongers and left to survive and navigate a desolate, sun-bleached planet. The first thirty minutes are almost silent (excluding voice-over) as we witness Riddick get back in touch with his ‘animal’ side. This is the best part of the film, as I have a real appreciation for physical cinema. The ability to say nothing and let only your presence and actions tell a story rather…

Like “Pitch Black”, “Riddick” goes back to the basics of a straight forward survival flick. No more Necromonger storylines interfering with the film is what makes this movie better than it’s predecessor. The Riddick universe is such a wonderfully strange one and I’m glad this movie brought it back to home base. I hope “Furya” comes out by 2023. I’ve been waiting a long time for it. I can’t wait see the direction they will go in for the fourth film. Until then I’ll keep rewatching one of my favorite Trilogy’s ever made.

Riddick on some fuckin planet and it might just get Pitch fuckin Black. A big-ass bird. A super-scary snake. A cool-as-fuck dog who likes to play fetch. Judge Dredd without his helmet. Battlestar Galactica side-boob. A Bokeem Woodbine sighting. Holy Fuck, it’s Cole Hauser’s dad. Bautista acting more like The Rock than John Cena. Painted toenails that match your nipples. Head in a fuckin box. Riding a space-motorbike like you stole it. Being a man of your word. A jamoke. Realizing some shit should be left in the past. I’m glad to see Riddick back as an R-rated film. Fuck PG-13 bullshit. However, the first 40 minutes of this film was basically I am Legend. You’re alone except for your…

100-word review: Actually my favourite of the collection. Riddick ditches the space-opera format of the previous film in favour of an Alien-like format in the same vein as the original, and to great succes. It’s slightly less tense, but even more badass than Pitch Black was, and naturally it looks better special effects-wise. Vin Diesel embodies the character he clearly loves, and plays off the intouchability of Riddick with flair. Judging by the synopsis, it seems as if the fourth film will look more like the second than this, which would be a pity; this formula works, stick to it. Part of my March 2023 Soon-to-be Action Tetralogies challenge; 12th out of 12 films.

‘Riddick’ isn’t a movie that I hold much praise for, yet it somehow did end up working for me. I was sensing light boredom for the majority, though it picks up enough by the conclusion that I’d say I’m cool with it. I could easily be rating it a notch lower, mind.

This is probably Vin Diesel’s weakeast showing thus far as Riddick, though I still find the main man to be a solid watch; I like him as an actor, so little surprise I guess. Katee Sackhoff’s Dahl is actually the one I enjoyed most, even if they annoyingly undermine the character at the end.

The rest of the cast aren’t worthy of much note, though Matt Nable is alright and I’m always happy to see Dave Bautista involved in a project; this is, in fact, the fourth (unconnected) film I’ve watched this year that he has popped up in, more the merrier!

Effects-wise, this mostly felt like a downgrade from the previous flick; despite the nine-year jump. The doglike creature, as cute a sidekick as it made, looks quite lousy. The feeling of being bored stemmed from the pacing, which did initially feel debilitating but it overcomes it.

‘Riddick: Furya’ is set to be the fourth installment of this series. That could actually be good, on paper it sounds interesting at least. We’ll see!

The third Pitch Black film “Riddick” is much more focused than its predecessor and a welcome return to the formula that worked so well for the original movie. Riddick is a bad-ass survivalist fighting an extinction level event that threatens everybody, with an assembly cast that is colorful and fun to watch.

**(Note: This review is of the theatrical version, I have seen the uncut version and it is an improvement, but have not reviewed that edition)**

In this latest incarnation, Riddick goes boldly goes where no previous entry has gone before: Nowhere.

Say what you will about the previous film (_Chronicles of Riddick_) at least it had the guts to take some risks. Sure, almost all of those ended up being complete misfires, but they were still taken. Riddick on the other hand plays it safe. It’s a path not entirely without benefit, but one that was not expected from the series spawned by Australian cult-classic _Pitch Black_.

Shoot me for saying it but I’m actually a huge fan of Davind Twohy (_The Arrival, Waterworld, G.I. Jane, A Perfect Getaway_) so I actually sort of hoped for more from the piece. Sure _Chronicles_ was silly and disjointed, sure _Dark Fury_ was totally unnecessary and _Dark Athena/Butcher Bay_ were only intermittently decent, but overall the Riddick franchise will always be compared to _Pitch Black_, and against this prodigy, the latest movie is simply subpar.

The Necromonger storyline has been all but dropped, any connections to previous characters (sans Riddick) are completely unbelievable and the events are a shameless rip off of the first film. Seeing a more “survivalist” and intelligent Riddick is nice, as it’s always been sort of more insinuated than outright shown. The entire world that the events of the film take place on is even moderately interesting, and none of the actors or characters are outright let downs, but overall Riddick falls much closer to the “barely watchable” category than the “brilliant” one.

It’s “cool”, it’s pretty and it’s most certainly entertaining, but it’s not new, it’s not clever, and it’s most certainly not as good as _Pitch Black_.

Maybe you’re all scared of the wrong thing.

Unsurprisingly reactions to this, the third outing for Vin Diesel’s sci-fi based anti-hero, has been very mixed. In truth it’s hardly a great film of the “must see” kind, and it does in fact cleave very close to Pitch Black, the first and most superior of the Riddick trilogy. However, there’s a whole bunch of science fiction fun to be had here.

Plot has Riddick left for dead on a inhospitable planet, where he finds himself up against some alien creatures. His only hope of getting off the planet is to bring notice of his whereabouts, which brings two ships to where he is. Both with crews who have differing reasons for wanting to capture the enigmatic convict…

And thus we get a beautifully filmed sci-fier that features beasties of both the human and alien kind. Action and moody histrionics are never far away, and Diesel is wonderfully muscular, macho, course and scary. Some of the CGI is weak, and naturally much of the film’s coincidences and contrivances have to be forgiven if one wants a popcorn and beer good time of it. 7/10

After trying to move the character to more epic levels in ‘Chronicles of Riddick’, and failing to capture an audience, this third installment in the series, simply titled ‘Riddick’, is a return-to-basics for director David Twohy. It quickly sets itself loose from the baggage of ‘Chronicles’ and pursues a more clear-cut survival action story that might as well be titled ‘Pitch Black 2‘.
