I’m so brave for watching all three of these movies before watching Fury Road.

For the first half of this film, I thought I was watching the best Mad Max film of all time. I fucking love the first half of this film. I loved Bartertown and how it feels like a natural evolution from the previous films. In Mad Max the bombs hadn’t gone off but the world had already gone to shit so it didn’t matter. in Road Warrior the bombs HAD dropped and so it was a free for all, with groups fighting over the leftovers of a dead society. With Beyond Thunderdome however we see the first real sign of a new economy in this post-apocalypse world; based around – you guessed it – bartering. It’s bartering that sets everything…

One of Thunderdome’s greatest strengths is the film’s ability to convey various elements of the world, characters, and plot through visually creative means. The fight in the Thunderdome stands out as a highlight, showcasing imaginative choreography, excellent camera placement, and skillful editing. While the action may not be as frequent as in other Mad Max films like Fury Road, it serves the purpose of driving a more plot-focused narrative. This film revolves around the creation of dichotomies, both between Max and the other characters and between Bartertown and The Lost Tribe. The Lost Tribe represent innocence, hope, and a profound connection to their history, preserving it in an almost religious-like manner. In contrast, Bartertown thrives on violence as entertainment and…

Problem is Thunderdome’s the best part. Should’ve been “Mad Max: Thunderdome, Where We Stay for the Whole Movie.”

60/100 As I noted on Twitter, the opening Bartertown sequence is my favorite thing in the entire series—it’s the first real indication of the go-for-broke insanity that Miller would subsequently employ not just for Fury Road, but (in gentler form, which I’ve never thought entirely effective) for Babe: Pig in the City. Master Blaster alone achieves a level of demented inspiration that only Gilliam at his best can (could?) rival, and while Tina Turner isn’t the least bit scary, at least she’s having a grand old time. Unfortunately, after 40 minutes Max gets banished and runs into the New Lost Boys, at which point the movie becomes semi-insufferable until the climactic chase sequence. (“Semi-” because I do enjoy the kids’ unusual dialect to some degree.) A somewhat pleasant surprise, nonetheless—it’s better than its rep.

when I first started watching this movie I was thinking to myself “ok. Mad Max is at the thunderdome. settle in, we’ll be here a while” next thing I know the Mad Max is going way beyond the thunderdome

Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome continues to explore its greatly detailed world by mainly focusing on an attempt to recreate civilisation instead of the savage wastelands. Bartertown showcases even more variety in characters and culture, creating a real world that’s always intriguing to watch. However, the film takes quite a detour in its latter half when it introduces a tribe of children which defeat all the villains in a Return of the Jedi-esque finale. The tone becomes quite tongue in cheek as there’s a lot of giggles and people making silly faces after being hit in the face with frying pans.

🎶We Don’t Need Another Hero🎶

This movie has a serious identity crisis, one minute it’s trying to be Mad Max, with brutal fights and intense drum soundtracks to hype it up, the other it has everyone running in circles and swinging on ropes on looney tunes happy soundtracks. Then some kids learn French for some reason ? This feels like a cheap, failed Comedy / Adventure movie, and the light hearted chase “combat” scenes made me lose interest.

Still better than the original, but not quite as good as the first sequel, this ever-so-slightly longer threequel manages to out-weird the series’ own instrinical weirdness by casting vocal powerhouse and wild bouffant afficionado Tina Turner as Aunty Entity: the ruthless yet determined ruler of Bartertown – the decadent and technological oasis which houses the Thunderdome of the title. There is definitely a lighter tone here; and a heavier focus on the Lost Boy esque plot thread in the second…

I have guilty pleasure for this mostly and parts I think are actually good. I like seeing how we loop back as humanity to longing for the knwowing of what came before and creating a god for ourselves to give us direction. The lingo of the tribe wanting to get to tomorrowmorrowland is very fun and interesting where you understand it but it’s still strange and out there kinda like inspo from yoda. I feel the inspo from last Jedi…

A step down from the previous installment in the series. I thought the acting and writing in particular could have been better. I also wished for more car chases, which by now I just expect in a Mad Max movie. On the positive side I thought there was some nice world building in there.

Takes it’s sweet time to become a Mad Max movie but it did eventually get going to be fair. I also definitely get the sense we’d have no Fury Road or Furiosa without this, so worth it.

It has a great first act, with absolutely incredible world-building and interesting characters. The second act felt like watching a live-action Peter Pan or a remake of Hook. And then there’s the disgusting, stupid, incredibly rushed third act. They somehow thought making a “funny” Mad Max chasing action sequences will be good. They seriously defeat the enemies with a frying pan!!

The first half features the iconic Thunderdome, with a fight so uniquely entertaining that it could only belong in the Mad Max universe. The second half turns into what feels like a Mad Max-Goonies crossover. This makes for some fun moments, but isn’t the Mad Max we’re used to. So the title fits; there is a Thunderdome, and they do go beyond that. Special shoutout: the kids’ dialogue, Tina Turner, and hot sax.

Lets get back to movie now, decent ending for decent trilogy, other than MC and this pilot guy whole trilogy…

There are interesting ideas here but honestly Miller is just trying too much. Maybe it’s the music but it feels like it’s trying to be this grand epic that doesn’t really work. From what I remember Furiousa has a similar problem but at least that movie is insane in fun ways, this is just generic hero stuff. Parts of it are almost looney tunes, mixed with a little of that Spielberg kid obsession that was so popular at the time. Also, for the movie to care so much it named itself Beyond Thunderdome, the titular Thunderdome is kind of boring. It’s barely even a dome.

Ever since watching the first film, I’ve been so Mad Max pilled. I can’t seem to get enough of it. That’s not me complaining though. I’ll happily watch a million of these. George Miller came back to continue Max’s journey through the desert, this time with some help from his name twin George Ogilvie. I hope they got adressed by their last name on set, it would’ve been mad confusing otherwise. You can feel with each movie this franchise adds,…

Hmm, a frustrating watch as the first third is excellent, right up there with #2 in its sleazy, tough, intimidating & outright horrific post apocalyptic township. Max’s expulsion & his punishment ‘outfit’ was also compelling & I thought we were in for some Django or Great Silence type vibes & I was salivating after an excellent opening where we’d be taken next. Then we meet the lost children & all that has gone before comes to a screeching halt & we get a childish slapstick complete…

Gittikçe kötüleşen Mad Max serisinin üçüncü filmi tam bir fabrika işi. Benzer hikâyeler, benzer dramalar nesillerdir kulaktan kulağa anlatılıyor yeni tek şey zamana uyarlanmış bir post apokaliptik bir dünya. Onu da g.t kadar stüdyolarda çekmişler.

Detailed set decoration and an excellent soundtrack boosts the third and final entry in the original Mad Max saga into good company with the previous two chapters. Mel Gibson was a hunk of a man in his youth, but Tina Turner steals the show with her ferocious Aunty Entity. 🟩🟩🟩 Sci-Fix52 2026 Week 48: The Vibe of Alien

i had always heard that this is generally considered the weakest of the trilogy or, by some few fans, actually the best, it’s really odd. I was always a bit confused by this as when one just reads the plot outline, you’d think “this CAN be done well”. And at first, it does. The first third is really creative, fun, dark and all around Mad-Max-ian. Once the kids come into play though, it turns surprisingly silly and really light, feeling…

mad max beyond thunderdome has amazing action scenes and an extremely compelling first hour that honestly deserves a 3. despite being more story intense and forcing max to speak more, which sacrifices a lot of his charm and complexity, the first hour genuinely sets the movie up to be better than the road warrior. once the kids get introduced, it completely flips not only in tone but in quality. if not for the amazing chase sequence at the end of…

Shittest of the original trilogy. Immensely stupid and painfully boring. Struggled to get to the end, then realised it still had an hour left.

Beyond Thunderdome is beyond wacky. Ths first half is really entertaining but becomes peter pan halfway through with kids swinging and sliding into action lol Loving Tina Turner. The departure from intense car based combat is disappointing, even the chase at the end feels more like ACME gags stacked back to back.

My favorite part is when Tina Turner catches Max at the end after he’s obliterated everything she’s worked hard to create. Laughs that they made quite a pair, and then drives off without killing him. The movie starts fine but the moment Max ends up at the child settlement it turns into a saturday morning cartoon and I have zero patience for it. Genuinely how is this the follow up to Mad Max 2 I still can’t believe this is a real movie.

Definitely the strangest of the original trilogy. It loses some of the raw brutality of the first two, but the world-building is still really interesting.
